“LOVE NEVER FAILS” 1st Corinthians 13:8
WE HAVE A DEPARTURE DATE!!
We leave in 7 weeks’ time for Mozambique , departing from the UK on March 18th, 2010. In this next 7 weeks we will be moving out of our rented home, handing over our jobs, completing a very long “to-do” list, and saying goodbye to our loved ones on UK soil (we’ve just returned from saying our goodbyes in the States when we were back for a visit over the New Year).
We are looking forward to making our home at the orphanage, being surrounded by children and centre life (as we will be living and working on the base). Matthew will be assisting with IT concerns, and training up the older children in computing skills. Sheri will be using her nursing skills to look after the HIV+ children and heading up medical care in the babyhouse. As missions work demands flexibility, needs will arise and we are sure to be taking on other roles as well.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will you be in Mozambique ?
We have committed to working with Iris Ministries for 2 years. We will take a “time-out” after the first year and then return for our second year. After this, God only knows at this point J
What is it like where you will be living?
It will be HOT (most of the time), sandy and FULL OF LIFE (noisy), because we will be living at the orphanage which cares for over 400 children. Our surrounding infrastructure is quite good as we live only 30 minutes from the capital city, Maputo . We have running water, plumbing, electricity and internet most times and hot water as long as we have gas.
Are you paid to work with Iris Ministries ?
Our church in England (Carmel Ministries) will be providing support monthly as others have also made their interest known in supporting us. Our church in America (Lighthouse Fellowship UMC) has also been a tremendous support and will be handling all contributions on that side.
Stateside: If you desire to help support us, you can easily do so by writing a check out to “Lighthouse Fellowship UMC” and noting on the subject line for “Sheri & Matthew Steer” (There is an example of this on the top right of this blog). If contributions are made through the church, they will provide a financial statement at the end of the year on which you can claim back taxes.

UK Giving: If you desire to help support us there are two ways to do this.
1.UK tax payer We have setup an account with a Christian organisation called Sovereign who co-ordinate giving to missionaries around the world. They help make use of the 25% tax reclaimed from the government if the giver is a UK taxpayer. This is a great way to give money as it increases the amount by a further 25% (There is more information on how to do this on the top right of this blog).
2. It's possible for you to send a cheque payable to: Matthew Steer and address it to: 18 Eastnor Road, Whitchurch, Bristol, BS14 0HG.

We will stay in contact with you through newsletters as often as we are able. You can contact us through e-mail: our addresses are sheristeer@gmail.com and matthewjsteer@gmail.com. You can also keep up to date with us on facebook (facebook: Sheri Lynn Steer) and if you see us on skype (skype: matthew_steer; sheri_steer), by all means, give us a call J. We will be in touch upon our arrival into Mozambique to give out our phone numbers and mailing address (both of which we will set up when we get there).
With love and appreciation,
